Charpy Impact Test
The Charpy impact test is used to determine the notch impact strength. A notched sample (standard size is 10 x 10 x 55 mm, with a notch, usually V-shaped at 45°) is cut through with a pendulum hammer in a single blow. The impact energy consumed is measured, usually in joules (J), and recorded. The KBZ is performed at room temperature (20°C) or lower, e.g. down to -196°C. This test belongs to the category of destructive material testing.
