Plasma Cutting

Plasma cutting is one of the thermal cutting processes used in metalworking. Plasma is a gaseous substance that is heated to a temperature of 30,000 °C in an electric arc. The plasma is directed at high speed onto the sheet metal through a nozzle, causing it to melt locally. This creates a gap. The liquid material is blown out of the gap by the plasma. Plasma cutting allows us to cut parts with any contour from sheets up to 150 mm thick. The dimensional accuracy depends on the sheet thickness. Up to 70 mm, the accuracy is 3 mm, up to 100 mm it is 5 mm, and up to 150 mm you must allow for 10 mm. The cut joints have only a slight degree of burr and little slag adhesion. A narrow heat-affected zone is created along the edges, which can be recognised by the temper colours.
